Feb. 3 Forum: The One Lake & Its Impact on Our Communities

Meeting purpose:

  • Update on the “One Lake”: What’s the timeline for the new study? What was this WLBT news about?
  • Update on 3 Communities 1 Common Agenda (3C1CA) Community Advisory Board (CAB) and organizing process.
  • Introduction to Community-Centered Sustainability Planning to address flooding and more.

Event: The 3C1CA Collective invites you to a community-wide convening on Saturday, February 3, from 9:15 AM to 12:30 PM. We will talk with Ricardo Lopez-Torrijos, a storm and groundwater researcher who will help us understand the various tools that local, state, and federal governments can use to reduce flood risks. Mr. Lopez-Torrijos will also explain how he’ll provide the 3 communities of Canton Club, Parkway, and McLeod with technical support examining the “One Lake” Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS).

Special Guest Bio

ricardoIn his 30-plus years of career, Ricardo Lopez-Torrijos has worked with academic and regulatory leaders to improve flood risk determination and stormwater practices at local and regional scales. Mr. Lopez-Torrijos’s technical assistance is generously supported by our partner, the Center for Applied Environmental Science. He is happy to visit Jackson and looks forward to meeting its people and understanding the Pearl River basin’s landscape.

We’ll also take a look at those One Lake planning documents exposed on WLBT back in December. What did they say? We’ll take a look beyond what was aired.
